Premier League told to consider Tottenham v Liverpool call after latest COVID postponement

Ramon Vega has urged the Premier League not to postpone Sunday's game between Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool at short notice.

Six of the 10 top-flight matches originally scheduled for this weekend have already been called off due to Covid outbreaks.

While Tottenham have seen their last three fixtures, in the Premier League and the Europa Conference League against Rennes, postponed for the same reason.

Liverpool, though, have fulfilled all of their games so far, despite three players being ruled out of Thursday night's win over Newcastle United at Anfield after returning suspected positive tests.

The Reds' match with Antonio Conte's Spurs side is currently just one of four going ahead this weekend, the Premier League confirmed on Saturday.

That statement came after Aston Villa's clash with Burnley was called off just two hours before kick off after more positive cases were recorded in the Villa camp.

Now Vega has called for the Premier League to consider travelling supporters and not leave postponing the match so late, should the situation change in both or either camp before the 4.30pm kick-off on Sunday.

"Please don’t do a last-minute cancellation again for tomorrow’s Game," the ex-Spurs star shared in a tweet.

"It’s not fair on all the fans travelling or planning to go tomorrow. @SpursOfficial @LFC @PremierLeague have some consideration. Thankyou."

On Wednesday night Burnley had another match cancelled at short notice as their home game vs Watford was postponed due to a rise in Covid cases within the visiting squad.

An announcement was made at 5:00pm, just two-and-a-half hours before it was scheduled to kick off at 7:30pm.

Liverpool supporters are set to make the trip to the capital tomorrow with kick-off vs Tottenham at 4:30pm GMT.
