Premier League told Liverpool 'could lose every game' after fixtures decision

Liverpool should not be awarded the Premier League title because it is still possible that they could "lose every game" once fixtures resume.

That is the view of Alan Smith who concedes the odds of the Reds losing their remaining nine games is close to impossible.

But it emphasises the point that the top flight must be completed with several permutations still to be decided.

The league title has looked a formality for months, but Smith does not think that should mean Liverpool are automatically given it.

England's top flight have some huge decisions in front of them and "may have to draw the line" on a time frame eventually.

"We could theoretically go into August, September maybe at a push, I don't know," Smith said.

"So that's quite a long time from now and you would hope that you would be able to play football by that stage.

"So they may have had a chat amongst themselves as to when that line will be drawn, when they might have to look at bringing an end to the season.

"It's impossible I think to do it in a fair way. Liverpool fans will obviously say 'we're going to win the title, you could give us the trophy now' but at the end of the day, mathematically they haven't.

"Theoretically the wheels could come off, they could lose every game. Of course it's not going to happen but we have to go along with the maths really.

"But I'm just hoping that won't happen, that we will get a chance to see it through, and I think we will."

Several clubs are still fighting for their Premier League status at the bottom of the league with West Ham chief Karren Brady calling for the season to be scrapped.

The race for the Champions League is also very much on with the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United, Tottenham and Wolves all in with a chance.
