Premier League title race: Kevin De Bruyne admits Manchester City need luck to chase down Liverpool

Kevin De Bruyne has admitted that Manchester City will need to have luck on their side if they are to overhaul Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table.

Liverpool beat Crystal Palace 4-3 on Saturday afternoon to very briefly extend their lead to seven points, before Manchester City eased past managerless Huddersfield Town on Sunday to reduce the gap.

City won the match at a canter and have now won four straight Premier League games, but De Bruyne has admitted his side will need luck to play its part if they are to catch up with Liverpool.

“There is always luck involved,” he said. “If you want to win something, you need luck, you need good form, everybody needs to be on it. It’s a consequence of everything.”

But he added that City had not been able to find the time to watch the whole of Liverpool’s win against Palace on Saturday.

“We were training at the time,” he said.

“We follow it a little bit, but you can’t follow it all because we have a life besides that. We try to do everything we can on the pitch, but after that, everyone has families and whatever, so you just have to live with whatever comes.”
