Premier League title medals Liverpool could get and the players who could miss out

Liverpool are just four wins away from the Premier League title, a victory that will see the Reds end a 30-year wait to once again become champions of England.

It has been a long time, granted, but it's still a surprise to find out that Sadio Mane didn't even know he'd receive a medal for his exploits throughout this league campaign.

Indeed, with 13 goals scored in 24 Premier League appearances so far, Mane has more than earned the gong that will be placed around his neck when the trophy makes its way to Anfield in May.

"I heard yesterday that if we win the league, we will have a medal," Mane told BBC World Service.

"I never knew that happened, but I don't care about medals."

Mane might not care, but plenty of other players will.

So who will receive a medal for their role in Liverpool's victory when it does come?

The Premier League distributed 40 medals to last year's champions Manchester City. These medals can be handed to whoever the club sees fit, including players, manager and backroom staff.

However, players who have made at least five Premier League appearances will receive a medal.

As things stand, Liverpool have used 23 players in the Premier League this season.

20 of those are currently on course to receive a winner's medal.

Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joel Matip, Roberto Firmino, Dejan Lovren, Jordan Henderson, Andrew Robertson, Naby Keita, Gini Wijnaldum, Joe Gomez, Fabinho, Alisson, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, James Milner, Divock Origi, Xherdan Shaqiri, Adam Lallana and Adrian have already qualified for a medal.

The other three players who have yet to make enough appearances to qualify for a medal automatically are youngsters Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott, as well as January signing Takumi Minamino.

Jones and Minamino both need three appearances each, with Elliott needing to turn out four more times in order to qualify.

The only senior player to have missed the entire season is Nathaniel Clyne.

Should Liverpool distribute 24 medals to players, Jurgen Klopp and his backroom staff will have 17 between them.

There are currently 24 first team staff listed on the club's official website.
