It was a nervy affair at Bramall Lane, but Liverpool maintained their five-point lead at the top of the Premier League with a 1-0 win over Sheffield United.
There were no such problems for closest challengers Manchester City, with Everton swept aside 3-1.
Leicester demolished a helpless Newcastle 5-0 to move into third, and West Ham complete the top four after a draw with Bournemouth.
Below those two the bigger boys lurk, with Chelsea and Tottenham securing victories and back to within touching distance of the top of the table.
