Liverpool jumped back above Manchester City to the Premier League summit after securing a late win over Southampton on Friday night.
The Reds fell behind at St Mary's courtesy of an early strike from Shane Long, but equalised when Naby Keita headed home his first goal in English football.
Mohamed Salah then etched his name on the scoresheet for the first time in eight matches across all competitions with an excellent solo effort 10 minutes from the end before substitute Jordan Henderson wrapped up all three points.
The pressure now falls back on City, who were in FA Cup semi-final action this weekend and also travel to Tottenham in the Champions League quarter-finals before returning to top-flight action against Crystal Palace on April 14.
On Sunday, Arsenal suffered a blow in their pursuit of a top-four finish after Phil Jagielka's 10th-minute goal consigned them to a 1-0 loss to Everton at Goodison Park - and that meant Chelsea went third with a 2-0 win over West Ham on Monday night.
At the other end of the table, Crystal Palace took a huge step towards survival as they beat Newcastle 1-0.
