Manchester United are top of the Premier League after Cristiano Ronaldo’s goalscoring return to Old Trafford helped them on their way to a thumping win over Newcastle.
Chelsea are hot on their heels, second only on goals scored, after they beat Aston Villa on Saturday evening, with Liverpool also on ten points and with an identical goal difference to the top two, while defending champions Man City are a point adrift after victory over Leicester.
Elsewhere, Arsenal moved out of the relegation zone with their first victory of the season, at home to newly promoted Norwich, but there was a first defeat of the campaign for north London rivals Tottenham, who were thumped 3-0 by Patrick Vieira’s Crystal Palace.
Fellow Londoners Brentford also saw their unbeaten start to the campaign come to an end as they suffered a late defeat against Brighton, while West Ham were held to a goalless draw away to Southampton.
On Sunday, Liverpool travel to Elland Road to take on Leeds before Everton host Burnley on Monday night to round off the gameweek.
