Third then hosted second in the late game as Manchester City opened up a seven-point gap on nearest rivals Leicester City, winning 1-0 at the King Power despite a missed penalty from Sergio Aguero.
Manchester United cruised past Watford 3-0 early on Sunday to jump to fifth, before improving Arsenal won a 3-2 thriller at the Emirates against Everton.
