Manchester City took a huge step towards retaining their Premier League title as they beat rivals Manchester United 2-0 at Old Trafford to leapfrog Liverpool into top spot.
Liverpool put the pressure on City with a 2-0 victory at Cardiff City at the weekend, but goals from Bernardo Silva and Leroy Sane secured a Manchester derby win for City on Wednesday night to go top.
Meanwhile, Arsenal's top four hopes took a hit on Wednesday as Wolves earned a comfortable 3-1 win at Molineux.
Tottenham tightened their grip on third place on Tuesday evening as another late show from Christian Eriksen downed a dogged Brighton side.
The Dane beat Mat Ryan from distance in the 88th minute to secure a nervy 1-0 win as the top-four race took another twist after an Easter weekend which saw Spurs, Arsenal and Manchester United lose before Chelsea were held by Burnley.
Also on Tuesday, Shane Long scored the fastest ever goal in the Premier League when he put Southampton ahead after just 7.69 seconds, only for Andre Gray to score in second-half injury time to claim a point for Watford.
Earlier in the round, relegated Fulham earned their first away win of the season at Bournemouth, Harvey Barnes claimed a late draw for Leicester against West Ham and Watford defeated bottom-of-the-table Huddersfield to move up to seventh.
