Premier League striker told to snub Tottenham to seal Leeds United transfer

Former Sunderland and West Brom striker has advised Bournemouth forward Joshua King to snub advances from Tottenham and to seal a move to Leeds United instead.

The 28-year-old Norway international has been linked with a host of top Premier League clubs, including Manchester United in the January transfer window, and could be on the move this summer.

King is poised the enter the final 12 months of his contract with the relegation-threatened side, who could be forced into a sale to ensure they don't lose his services for nothing next summer.

However, Phillips is unsure whether a move to Tottenham would be beneficial due to competition with England captain Harry Kane and believes Leeds would be a better fit.

“Very exciting player but I am unsure whether he would be happy playing second-fiddle to Harry Kane," he told Football Insider.

“He may not play very often. King needs to go somewhere where he will play often – Leeds springs to mind. If he goes there he will be their number one striker and play every week.

“There is the lure of a club like Tottenham but ultimately, you do not want to be there knowing that if Kane stays fit you are very rarely going to start. That can affect your confidence."
