Premier League striker linked with Bristol City in January set to join Championship rivals

Blackburn Rovers are set to land striker Sam Gallagher according to the latest reports.

In January HITC reported that  Bristol City  were one of a number of Championship clubs interested in taking the striker on loan for the second half of the season.

As is still the case now the Robins were keen to add a striker to their squad in the January transfer window however they failed to do so last season.

Lee Johnson was reported to be in competition with the likes of Nottingham Forest, Hull City and Millwall for Gallagher's signature in January however the forward ended up staying at St Mary's.

Gallagher, 23, ended up making six appearances for the Saints last season without netting, playing against Cardiff City, Manchester United and Brighton in the Premier League after Southampton decided to keep hold of their attacker.

Now, according to The Daily and Sunday Telegraph newspapers' chief football writer Sam Wallace, Gallagher’s protracted move to Blackburn Rovers will be completed this weekend.

Wallace reports the fee will be in the region of £5m which he says "is a good price for Saints, who are trimming squad before further signings."

Gallagher spent the 2016/17 season on loan at Blackburn, scoring 11 goals for the club in 43 league games.

In 2017/18 he spent the season at Birmingham City. scoring seven goals.
