It was the home fans who had most to cheer about at the Britannia Stadium as Stoke City took on Manchester City. Peter Crouch opened the scoring with a contender for goal of the season - a looping volley from 30 yards out. City's equaliser came from even further out when Yaya Toure let rip from 40 yards out and a big deflection from the head of Ryan Shawcross took it past Asmir Begovic and into the net. The draw puts City back on top of the table on goal difference although Manchester United will replace them if they avoid defeat to Fulham on Monday. Roberto Mancini was incensed by Stoke's aggressive approach and refused to speak to the media after the game. Though the final word fell to the home fans who were chanting "You're gonna win EFF all" at the final whistle. Liverpool have now lost five of their last six league matches and worryingly for Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish the most recent losses have come against two teams in the relegation zone. The visitors took the lead when Shaun Maloney fired the ball past Pepe Reina from the penalty spot. Luis Suárez equalised early in the second half and then thought he had given the home side the lead just seven minutes later but the referee ruled that he had turned the ball into the net from close range with his arm. As Liverpool lapsed back into lethargy, the compact and tenacious Wigan regained the lead in the 63rd minute when Gary Caldwell found the necessary composure to sidestep Andy Carroll and slot the ball under Pepe Reina. Final score: 1-2Photograph: Laurence Griffiths/Getty ImagesGiven that both teams in Saturday's clash at Carrow Road had taken only one point from the past 12 available, it looked like the game would always be a tight, scrappy affair. However two goals in two minutes midway through the first half certainly brightened proceedings. Wolverhampton Wanderers took the lead when Matt Jarvis got on the end of a low cross to sidefoot the ball home. Norwich equalised just 80 seconds later when Grant Holt, played onside by Sébastien Bassong, lobbed the Wolves goalkeeper then nodded the bouncing ball into the goal. Just before half-time the striker gave the home side the lead from the penalty spot after Eggert Jonsson was adjudged to have handled the ball. An eventful afternoon was brought to an close when Holt was sent for an early bath following a second yellow card. Final score: 2-1Photograph: Jamie McDonald/Getty Images
For two teams battling for the fourth Champions League place, today's Chelsea v Spurs game at was a rather insipid affair. Chelsea keeper Petr Cech was the busier of the two keepers, in fact Tottenham keeper Brad Friedel only had one save to make all afternoon - a routine one from a Frank Lampard free kick in the 86th minute. Spurs on the other hand had a handful of chances, but will rue the fact that they were unable to take them. Chelsea remain five points off the Champions League pace and still have to visit Arsenal and Liverpool, so it looks like Spurs are in the driving seat for that Champions League spot. Final score: 0-0Photograph: Ian Kington/AFP/Getty ImagesAt a sunny Emirates Stadium Arsenal recorded a seventh successive Premier League victory and tightened their grip on a Champions League spot. Kieran Gibbs opened the scoring with a low shot that was deflected past Shay Given. The Aston Villa keeper was beaten again when Theo Walcott deftly brought down a lobbed pass and sidefooted the ball into the net. Incredibly, that was the first time that two English players have scored for Arsenal in the same league game since 1997. A comfortable victory was rounded off during injury time with Mikel Arteta's fabulous, ferocious, free kick. Final score: 3-0Photograph: Yui Mok/PADjibril Cissé was sent off for the second time on only his fifth appearance for Queens Park Rangers as his side self-destructed at Sunderland. The visitors were trailing to Nicklas Bendtner's 41st-minute header when the Frenchman launched himself into a two-footed tackle on Fraizer Campbell and was shown a straight red card by the referee Mike Jones. James McClean added a second 20 minutes from time and Stéphane Sessègnon made sure of the points six minutes later. Despite QPR defender Taye Taiwo pulling a goal back with a stunning late free-kick, the home side ran out comfortable winners. The win took the Black Cats into eighth place in the table, only two points adrift of Liverpool in seventh, and sent QPR back into the relegation zone. Final score: 3-1Photograph: Matthew Lewis/Getty ImagesSecond-half goals from Leighton Baines and Nikica Jelavic meant Everton leapfrogged Swansea in the Premier League table and become only the third side to win at the Liberty Stadium this season. Baines dusted himself down after being fouled by Ashley Williams to curl a lovely free-kick beyond Michel Vorm just before the hour, and Jelavic sealed the win by tapping in his second goal for the visitors with 14 minutes remaining. The defeat brings to a end the Welsh club's run of three straight wins. Final score: 0-2Photograph: Richard Heathcote/Getty Images
