Mauricio Pochettino's sacking came as a shock to Tottenham fans and the Premier League, perhaps serving as a warning that no manager is safe from the 'sack race'.
The Argentine's five-and-a-half-year reign at the north London club came to an abrupt end on Tuesday with Spurs down in 14th after a dismal start to the season.
His departure was announced less than six months after the 47-year-old had guided Tottenham to the Champions League final and guaranteed a top-four spot in the league.
But it was not enough to save him as chairman Daniel Levy pulled the trigger and appointed Jose Mourinho within 12 hours of Pochettino's departure.
Pochettino became the second top-flight manager to lose his job this season, following Javi Gracia out the exit door after the Spaniard was ruthlessly axed by Watford just four games into the season.

There could soon be more names to add to the list ahead of the festive period. Manuel Pellegrini is now the bookmakers' favourite after West Ham's 3-2 home defeat to Tottenham.
Unai Emery appears to be hanging onto his job at Arsenal despite Alexandre Lacazette's 96th-minute winner rescued a point at home to Southampton, with Ralph Hasenhuttl also under pressure.
The writing appears to be on the wall for Marco Silva at Everton after a home loss to struggling Norwich City. Their next four games: Leicester away, Liverpool away, Chelsea at home and Manchester United away.
