Premier League’s “World Cup style” plan to finish 2019/20 season

The Premier League are planning to use “World Cup style” camps in order to finish the 2019/20 season according to reports.

Fixtures have been suspended until at least April 30, although it is expected that it will be extended beyond that date amid the coronavirus outbreak.

The UK is currently in lockdown in order to try and reduce the spread of infection and to reduce the pressure on the NHS.

Most teams still have at least nine games of the season remaining, and as reported by football.london, plans are being put in place for the fixtures to take place over the summer months, with teams then going straight into the 2020/21 season.

According to the Independent , discussions over plans to play games behind closed doors in isolation camps in both the midlands and London are gaining support.

Should the plan go ahead, then every game would be televised like a major international competition, with a few games being shown every day.

It is said that the plan would get the backing of the government due to the rise in morale that live football could give to the nation.

The plan would mean that clubs’ staff will be confined to separate hotels with full testing and quarantine conditions.

It is suggested in the Mirror that some clubs fear that fans may not be able to return to watch games until October, seven months after the initial postponements due to ongoing health concerns.
