Premier League's stance on Arsenal loans as Martin Odegaard deal to follow Mat Ryan

Arsenal are free to pursue their loan deal for Martin Odegaard despite Friday's arrival of Mat Ryan, report football.london.

The Gunners made the surprise move for Australia international Ryan on Friday, snapping up the 28-year-old on loan from Brighton until the end of the season after he had fallen out of favour under Graham Potter.

Ryan is set to provide cover for current Arsenal No.1 Bernd Leno, while Arteta is also hopeful of a move to sign Norway star Odegaard on loan from Real Madrid.

With Dani Ceballos already at the Emirates on his own loan deal from Real, there had been suggestions that the Gunners would be unable to complete the Odegaard move as they would already have two loan players in their squad.

However while there are Premier League rules on loan deals, clubs are only allowed to loan two players from other domestic clubs, meaning they are free to bring in more players on temporary deals from abroad.

Fulham, for instance, currently have six loan players in their squad, but only two - Ruben Loftus-Cheek from Chelsea and Mario Lemina from Southampton - belong to other English clubs.

The others - Alphonse Areola (Paris Saint-Germain), Joachim Andersen (Lyon), Ademola Lookman (RB Leipzig) and Ola Aina (Torino) - have all come from clubs overseas.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is hopeful of concluding a deal for Odegaard before the closure of the January transfer window, with the Gunners boss seeking to add another creative talent to his team's ranks.

The Evening Standard, meanwhile, report that Arteta is looking to add cover at left-back after Sead Kolasinac returned to Schalke on loan.

Southampton's Ryan Bertrand is one of the names being considered by the Gunners, although a move may wait until the summer when he'll be available on a free transfer.

Crystal Palace's Tyrick Mitchell is another left-back Arsenal are said to be monitoring.
