Premier League's coronavirus suspension has created potential Man Utd transfer problem

Manchester United may be without Odion Ighalo come the end of the season, due to the coronavirus outbreak suspending Premier League fixtures.

The Red Devils brought Ighalo in on loan in January, agreeing with Chinese Super League side Shanghai Shenhua that he would return on June 30.

This date is after the Premier League season was scheduled to conclude, meaning the Red Devils would have the striker on their books for the business end of the competition.

But the global outbreak of COVID-19 has seen English football chiefs issue two suspensions - first postponing Premier League fixtures until April 4, before revising this and cancelling matches until April 30.

A statement alongside the confirmation of the second suspension made it clear that the Premier League is "committed to concluding the season".

It read: "The FA, Premier League, EFL and women's professional game, together with the PFA and LMA are committed to finding ways of resuming the 2019/20 football season as soon as it is safe and possible to do so."

This means it is highly likely that Premier League fixtures will be played into the summer - perhaps even to the point they interfere with next season's schedule.

And in this scenario, United would be without Ighalo, who would leave OId Trafford and return to China on the last day of June.

Ighalo has made eight appearances for Manchester United following his January loan move, before the season was temporarily suspended.

He has netted four times in all competitions - twice against Derby in the FA Cup, and twice in the Europa League; once against Club Brugge and the other against LASK Linz.
