Premier League round-up: Newcastle need to beat Manchester United to move out of bottom three

James Milner's 95th-minute penalty extended Liverpool's winning run in the Premier League, earning the Reds a 2-1 home victory over Leicester.

The Reds' 17th successive top-flight triumph was secured by Milner after Marc Albrighton had fouled Sadio Mane in the area deep into added time.

It was the Senegal striker who opened the scoring at Anfield with a fine finish after Milner's outstanding through-ball just before the break.

But Leicester - on Brendan Rodgers' first return to Liverpool since he was sacked as manager in 2015 - hit back through James Maddison with 10 minutes left.

Jurgen Klopp's team looked like they would settle for a point, but Mane was caught by Albrighton, after the Foxes man had lost the ball in the area, and the reliable Milner made no mistake from 12 yards as Liverpool moved eight points clear of Manchester City at the top.

There were fiery scenes at the final whistle when former Newcastle United forward Ayoze Perez clashed with Liverpool players before being led away by Jamie Vardy.

Brighton inflicted more pain on Tottenham with a superb and deserved 3-0 victory in the lunchtime kick-off.

Neil Maupay scored the opener after three minutes, heading in on the goal line and making the most of a bad mistake by Hugo Lloris.

The Spurs captain and goalkeeper landed awkwardly on his left arm after spilling the ball and had to be taken from the field at the AMEX while needing oxygen.

Mauricio Pochettino's problems increased in the 32nd minute when Aaron Connolly found the net on his first Premier League start, finishing from close range.

And he grabbed a second not long after the hour mark, having cut inside Toby Alderweireld, to cap a wonderful day for Graham Potter's team and increase the pressure on the Tottenham manager.

Everton boss Marco Silva also had a difficult day, with Jeff Hendrick netting the only goal of the game for Burnley at Turf Moor.

Seamus Coleman was sent off in the 56th minute for a second bookable offence and, despite the visitors holding on for another 14 minutes, Hendrick met Ashley Westwood's corner to volley in and make it four league defeats in a row for the Toffees.

Aston Villa ran riot at Norwich and could even afford to miss a first-half penalty in a stunning 5-1 win over last season's Championship winners.

Dean Smith's men scored twice before the half-hour mark through Wesley.

He was denied a hat-trick by Michael McGovern when his spot-kick was saved, but it would not come back to cost Villa.

Jack Grealish scored four minutes into the second half and Conor Hourihane and Douglas Luiz grabbed further goals as injury-hit Norwich were put to the sword at Carrow Road.

With three minutes left, Josip Drmic grabbed a consolation for the Canaries, but manager Daniel Farke will hope the upcoming international break allows some of his injured players to return.

Watford's winless Premier League run now stands at 12 matches after they were held to a 0-0 draw at home to Sheffield United.

The Blades dominated possession, but Quique Sanchez Flores' side created some excellent opportunities, although forward duo Andre Gray and Danny Welbeck failed to take them.

The results mean Newcastle need to beat Manchester United on Sunday to move out of the bottom three.

Three points for Steve Bruce's men would lift them above Norwich (6ps) and Everton (7pts), with Southampton (7pts) facing Chelsea and Wolves (7pts) taking on Manchester City also on Sunday.
