Premier League return date doubts as Non-League seasons are voided

Premier League fixtures are set to be suspended beyond the April 30 return date, according to reports.

The outbreak of the coronavirus forced English football chiefs to initially postpone the professional game in the UK until April 3.

This was quickly revised, with matches being postponed until April 30.

The situation has worsened in this time, with Prime Minister Boris Johnson issuing a lock-down on Britain, which has seen restaurants, pubs, non-essential shops, theatres and places of worship temporarily close.

Footballers have also been unable to stay match-fit in this time, due to training grounds being shut all over the UK.

And football officials have accepted that April 30 is no longer realistic, meaning the return date will be pushed back once more.

According to the Daily Mail, a new date is expected to be announced next week, after a third meeting between Premier League and EFL officials takes place.

The news comes as all football in England below the three divisions that make up the National League has been cancelled.

It means all results have been expunged and there will be no promotions or relegations in these divisions. The same applies in the women's game, below the Women's Super League and Championship level.

Meanwhile, The FA confirmed it is "reviewing all options" to complete the men's FA Cup.

A statement read: "These are challenging circumstances for English football and all decisions taken are in the best interests of the game and in consultation across key stakeholders.

"Our primary concern will always be for the safety and welfare of clubs, players, staff, officials, volunteers and supporters during this unprecedented time.

"Today's steps take into account the financial impact during this uncertain period, whilst considering the fairest method on how the sporting outcomes for the season will be decided with the integrity of the leagues in mind."
