Premier League retained list indicates Andy Carroll has left Newcastle United

Newcastle United's list of released players - which was submitted to the Premier League - includes Andy Carroll.

The Magpies confirmed that a host of Under-23 players had left Benton this week while Christian Atsu also publicly said goodbye to supporters.

But United had not announced the end of Carroll's second stint at St James' Park until the retained list appeared on the Premier League website today.

The Premier League's retained list is not definitive and in theory Carroll could still be offered a new deal as his contract is still active until June 30.

Carroll arrived at Newcastle on a free transfer in summer 2019 and despite concerns over fitness and injuries, he has made 43 appearances for the club in two years.

His presumed departure is in stark contrast to 2011 when he left the club for a record-breaking £35million fee to join Liverpool amid the glare of the media on deadline day a decade ago.

Although, many appearances have been from the bench and Carroll only netted once in the Premier League, at home to Leicester City in a 2-1 defeat.

However, despite being used sparingly in the second half of the season, Carroll was available to play but not selected by Steve Bruce during the run-in.

If confirmed by the club he has left, his last appearance came against Sheffield United.

Carroll was pictured waving as he left the field at Fulham after being an unused sub on the last day.

The list also suggests that Fabian Schar, Dwight Gayle, and Federico Fernandez will all be staying despite the expiry of their current arrangements on June 30.
