Premier League releases statement explaining Crystal Palace VAR decision vs Liverpool FC

The Premier League has clarified the VAR decision to disallow Crystal Palace's first-half goal against Manchester City's title rivals Liverpool on Saturday afternoon.

James Tomkins had found the back of the net with a header to give Palace the lead but VAR intervened to chalk the goal off due to a push on Dejan Lovren.

Liverpool went on to win the game 2-1, with goals from Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino sandwiching a Wilfried Zaha strike.

A statement issued by the PGMOL said: "In the 42nd minute of Crystal Palace v Liverpool, James Tomkins scored for Crystal Palace. The on-field decision was to award the goal, but the VAR identified a clear push by Jordan Ayew on Dejan Lovren and advised the referee to reverse his decision and award a free kick to Liverpool."
