Premier League release statement on Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham and European Super League plans

The Premier League have released a statement rejecting plans for a European Super League.

The 'big six' clubs from the Premier League confirmed their decison to move into a European Super League on Sunday night, but those proposals have been rejected by the other 14 clubs in the Premier League following a meeting on Tuesday morning.

Crisis talks were held with Premier League chief executive Richard Masters this morning to decide a plan of action.

FIFA, UEFA and the UK Government further outlined their plans to block the project today, for which 12 clubs have signed up, including Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal.

Boris Johnson refused to rule out evasive government measures such as cutting police funding around matches and revoking work visas in an attempt to thwart the Super League.

After a lengthy meeting, the Premier League has confirmed that the project has been resoundingly rejected by the remaining clubs, who are said to be furious over what is considered a huge betrayal to English football.

Here is the statement in full:

"The Premier League, alongside The FA, met with clubs today to discuss the immediate implications of the Super League proposal.

"The 14 clubs at the meeting unanimously and vigorously rejected the plans for the competition.

"The Premier League is considering all actions available to prevent it from progressing, as well as holding those Shareholders involved to account under its rules.

"The League will continue to work with key stakeholders including fan groups, Government, UEFA, The FA, EFL, PFA and LMA to protect the best interests of the game and call on those clubs involved in the proposed competition to cease their involvement immediately.

"The Premier League would like to thank supporters and all stakeholders for the support they have shown this week on this significant issue.

"The reaction proves just how much our open pyramid and football community means to people."
