Premier League reject West Ham's bid to move Southampton game to benefit Women's FA Cup Final

West Ham's request to move their home game against Southampton on Saturday week to 12.30pm so fans can also attend the Women's FA Cup Final has been rejected by the Premier League.

The Hammers asked to bring the game forward from 3pm to give fans enough time to then get to Wembley to support their women’s team play Manchester City at 5.30pm.

But it is understood Southampton did not want to move the fixture because of the potential inconvenience to their supporters who had already made travel arrangements.

That decision was made because of the short notice but the clash has raised questions over why the FA scheduled the final on the same day as the penultimate round of Premier League fixtures.

West Ham Women have reached the final in their first season as a professional team and it is feared their support at Wembley will now suffer as a result of the clash.

West Ham said today: “Despite the club’s very best efforts, it was decided that it would not be possible due to the potential inconvenience caused to supporters who had already planned their journeys and purchased tickets.

"Therefore, the game will remain at the originally scheduled time of 3pm.”
