Referee chief Mike Riley has admitted that four mistakes have been made so far in the Premier League this season by VAR, one of which involved Manchester City.
The technology introduced for the 2019/20 season has proven to be controversial during the opening four matches of the season, where City fans have had to get used to its involvement in the game.
There have already been calls for changes to be implemented and they will be in place for this weekend, as referee chief Mike Riley has admitted that four mistakes by VAR have been witnessed so far in a Premier League shareholders' meeting on Thursday.
One of the decisions highlighted as an example was the decision not to award City a penalty when Bournemouth's Jefferson Lerma stood on his foot during a 3-1 victory for Pep Guardiola's side.
Another penalty shout ignored in the matches but highlighted as an error involved West Ham's Sebastian Haller, who was brought down by Norwich City's Tom Trybull.
The other two examples provided were Fabian Schar's equalising goal for Newcastle United against Watford and the decision not to send Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans off for an apparent stamp on Bournemouth's Callum Wilson.
Riley told the shareholders' meeting that he had gathered his officials during the international break, where it was agreed that the decisions should have been overturned on review.
As a result, changes are afoot in the Premier League this weekend as the VAR team at Stockley Park will be expected to step in and tell the referee to change his decision should a similar incident occur.
However, the Premier League’s stance is still to avoid using the pitch-side monitors wherever possible as this leads to an extended delay - although that could still change in the future.
