'Premier League prices' - Leeds United announcement on Reading tickets prompts backlash from rival fans

Leeds United will be rocked by a bumper home crowd for Saturday’s match against Reading, but the announcement has divided fans on social media.

Not for the first time, there was a mischievous edge from the club’s official Twitter account as it announced more tickets would become available for home fans after the Royals failed to fill their full allocation.

“Reading are the latest club to not sell out their away allocation, so extra tickets have now been made available to Leeds United fans in the West Stand,” read the club’s statement, a thinly-veiled dig at the opposition fanbases who don’t sell out their full away allocations.

The decision to charge away fans £39 for a ticket has proved controversial. A number of fans,  including many from Leeds, have criticised the club for overcharging visiting fans that often have to fork out for travel and accommodation.

The ticket price is among the most expensive in the league, and more expensive than any Premier League game, with a maximum £30 away ticket rule enforced.

Others have defended the club, arguing that it’s only fair that away fans pay the same amount as Leeds fans that sit in the same section of the stadium.

Here’s what fans of Leeds and rival clubs have had to say on Twitter:
