Premier League player arrested on suspicion of rape and false imprisonment

A Premier League player has been arrested on suspicion of rape and false imprisonment.

The player, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was arrested at his home on Wednesday morning following an alleged incident which took place last month.

The footballer has been released from police custody pending further investigation.

Further to the arrest, officers also issued the player and an unnamed woman, who was present at the same address, with fines relating to a breach of coronavirus restrictions.

A police statement read: "A man was arrested at the address on suspicion of rape and false imprisonment; he has since been released under investigation pending further enquiries.

“Two people, a women and a man, who were present at the address at the time of the warrant were also issued with fixed penalty notices for Covid-19 breaches.”
