Premier League permutations: Champions League place confirmed, what an Arsenal win would mean

The business end of the Premier League season is upon us and there is still plenty to be decided at  both ends of the table.

Manchester City and Liverpool are going toe-to-toe for the title, while beneath them a four-way clash between Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and Manchester United is taking place for the two remaining Champions League spots.

There is also a fierce fight for a seventh-placed finish, which could provide an avenue into the Europa League, while a number of sides are frantically trying to avoid the final remaining relegation spot near the foot of the table.

With so few games remaining, we are approaching the time where things can be decided and we have outlined everything that could be confirmed this weekend.

Title race

With the fight between Liverpool and City looking set to go right to the wire, no side can secure a definitive advantage this weekend. However, their clashes with Chelsea and Crystal Palace respectively have been highlighted as potential banana skins.

Top-four

Liverpool became the first side to seal their top-four finish and spot in the Champions League next season recently and Manchester City can follow suit this weekend if they manage to beat Crystal Palace.

A point for Pep Guardiola’s side would not mathematically be enough but their goal difference is significantly higher than the clubs below them, so their spot would theoretically be sealed.

Meanwhile, a win for either Tottenham or Arsenal would officially mean that the race for the top four is a four-way clash as they could not be caught by any of the sides placed seventh or lower in the standings.

Seventh-spot

West Ham’s defeat to Chelsea on Monday leaves their chances of securing this spot looking very slim, as they are already five points behind Leicester City with five games to go. Therefore, the fight should involve the Foxes, Wolves, a rejuvenated Everton side and FA Cup finalists.

Relegation fight

Huddersfield Town and Fulham have already seen their fate sealed, which means there is just one relegation spot remaining in the Premier League.

Five points from safety with six games to go, Cardiff City are in a precarious position but cannot officially be relegated for a few weeks.

As it stands mathematically, all of the teams in the bottom half are still under threat of relegation.
