After three long months, the World Cup summer is over and the Premier League is back on the TV listings.
All eyes are on the defending champions Arsenal, who broke their 22-year duck to top the table back in May and now face the gruelling task of defending their title.
Early signs suggest they are prepared to do exactly that. A comprehensive 3-0 defeat of last season’s runners-up Manchester City in the Community Shield has sent warning signs to the rest of the league.
There are plenty more challengers to the throne. Chelsea are under new management, with Xabi Alonso in the dugout, while Roberto De Zerbi’s Tottenham has enjoyed a thorough overhaul of its playing ranks.
And there are three new sides in the league, too, with Hull City, Coventry and Ipswich all newly promoted to the top flight.
