Premier League most expensive midfielders including Leeds United's Kalvin Phillips, Liverpool and Chelsea stars

Kalvin Phillips' long-term future at Leeds United has been the subject of speculation in recent weeks.

The midfielder is contracted at Elland Road until 2024, but Liverpool and Manchester United are among those credited with an interest.

It is not the first time Phillips has been linked with an exit, but the England international's stock has risen in recent months and there has been inevitable talk of a potential need for Champions League football.

There is no indication at this stage that either the club or boyhood fan Phillips are even considering a potential transfer, with talks over a new contract progressing.

But should the moment come where both parties agree a transfer is the best option, what transfer fee could Leeds reasonably command?

Industry website Transfermarkt collates a plethora of stats on every Premier League player, including an assigned transfer value.

When it comes to defensive midfielders in the Premier League, Phillips is considered to be the ninth-most valuable in the division.

The Leeds midfielder is listed with a value of £36m, which has risen by £9m since May as a result of his impressive displays at Euro 2020.

The 25-year-old's price tag has almost doubled in the space of a year, with the England international valued at £19.8m at the beginning of his debut Premier League campaign.

It is a value which puts Phillips in esteemed domestic company, with Declan Rice and Rodri ranked the most valuable defensive midfielders with fees of £63m each.

Wilfred Ndidi and Fabinho are listed with price tags of £54m, with N'Golo Kante next on the list at £49.5m. Chelsea team-mate Jorginho follows at £40.5m, with Tomas Soucek and Ruben Neves level at £37.8m.

Phillips comes in just behind the West Ham and Wolves midfielders, and is considered to have the same value as Arsenal's Thomas Partey.

Of course, Leeds fans would most likely expect a fee in excess of £36m should a transfer ever be sanctioned, given Phillips' rise and importance to Marcelo Bielsa's side.
