The Premier League has reportedly urged all clubs to trial vaccine passports at matches ahead of October when there is potential for mandatory requirements ordered by the government.
The government has already confirmed that nightclubs will be forced to use the NHS Covid pass from the end of September and they have since suggested that something similar may be utilised for large-scale events, such as football matches.
Ahead of the new season, footballing authorities are desperate to bring fans back to stadiums in a safe and secure way and will therefore begin trialling vaccine passports as soon as possible.
Chelsea and Tottenham have already announced that they will be trialling the NHS pass for their clash on August 4 and Spurs' subsequent fixture against Arsenal four days later.
However, they have both confirmed that they will also be accepting negative results from lateral flow tests for the two matches.
The two games will likely be observed as case studies for determining the effectiveness of Covid passes and whether or not additional measured will be required next term
The Covid pass effectively means that any fans attending Premier League matches would have to be fully vaccinated against the virus, with the Independent reporting that numerous figures inside the footballing world sense that vaccine passports are likely to be government-mandated in the near future.
Fans can illustrate what their vaccination status is via the NHS app as well as a vaccination letter. Negative tests are also thought to be recognised as sufficient evidence to be allowed into games during the trialling but no final decision has been made as of yet.
Furthermore, Premier League clubs also reportedly discussed the problems that arose during the Euro 2020 final at Wembley and how they can avoid similar instances of chaos throughout the 2021/22 campaign.
