Premier League make decision on Miguel Almiron Newcastle United issue amid FIFA stance

The Premier League are set to hold talks with FIFA after Miguel Almiron was not permitted to travel to Paraguay for their World Cup qualifiers as a result of red list quarantine rules.

According to the DailyMail, Almiron faces a potential ban from FIFA after the Premier League put a block on the Paraguayan linking up with his international side.

FIFA have the power to ban players from taking part in the first Premier League games after the international break and could impose a five-day rule on the Newcastle forward.

If Almiron were to face disciplinary action, he would be out of Newcastle's trip to Manchester United, after the Paraguay FA complained to FIFA.

The Premier League are set to meet with FIFA to try to prevent any suspensions being handed out to players, with both parties keen to find a solution as they understand the problems caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

The Premier League chief executive, Richard Masters, said: "Premier League clubs have always supported their players' desires to represent their countries – this is a matter of pride for all concerned.

"However, clubs have reluctantly but rightly come to the conclusion that it would be entirely unreasonable to release players under these new circumstances.

"We understand the challenges that exist in the international match calendar and remain open to workable solutions."
