Liverpool returned to the top of the Premier League table as they struck the latest blow in their titanic title race with Manchester City on Sunday, beating relegation-haunted Cardiff.
The win - Liverpool's ninth in a row in all competitions - leaves Jurgen Klopp's men two points clear of City, whose game in hand comes on Wednesday evening when they make the short trip to Old Trafford to face derby rivals Manchester United.
They will do so with Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's dwindling fortunes having taken a further turn for the worse as his side slipped to a sixth defeat in eight games at Everton, a woeful 4-0 loss.
If it is any consolation, United's rivals for a top-four finish Arsenal slipped up to lose 3-2 at home to Crystal Palace just over 24 hours after Tottenham had lost 1-0 at City on Saturday.
Chelsea are in action tonight, hosting Burnley, as they look to jump into third place and take pole position in the race for Champions League qualification.
