Premier League issue update over Everton and Liverpool squads ahead of restart

Premier League clubs have been denied permission to resubmit their 25-man squads ahead of the season resuming next week.

Hopes had been high that clubs may be given leeway to change which players are registered for the final games of the season due to the three-month break from playing.

The break has given players a chance to return to fitness, such as Newcastle United's Paul Dummett, who had suffered what was expected to be a season-ending injury but has since played in the Magpies' friendly matches ahead of next week's return.

Yet the Daily Mail report that alterations will not be permitted unless special dispensation is given by the Premier League board.

For Liverpool, it means Jurgen Klopp will not be able to make any changes to his squad ahead of the return next week.

It is difficult to see what changes Klopp would have made to his squad had he been allowed, though, with the Reds having avoided any season-ending injuries.

Yet it does mean the Reds will be facing a potentially-weakened Aston Villa side in July.

Villa were forced to remove goalkeeper Tom Heaton and striker Wesley from their squad in January due to injury.

Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti meanwhile was only able to work with 18 outfield players during a training session this week, a club video has confirmed.

And should the club's injury issues fail to ease in time for next weekend's Premier League return against Liverpool, then the matchday squad could include two players who have no future at the club as well as a teenage defender who only joined in January.

With Yerry Mina and Theo Walcott certain to miss the Merseyside derby, and Andre Gomes and Fabian Delph concerns for the game, Ancelotti has seen a squad already hit by injury, further depleted over the past 10 days.
