The Premier League have introduced a new “code of conduct” for players to adhere to amid fears of increasing numbers of Covid cases.
Stars have also been urged to get two vaccinations as many are still resisting getting one.
According to John Cross at the Mirror, the government’s Deputy Chief Medical Officer, Jonathan Van Tam, has spoken to the 20 captains and Professional Footballer’s Association (PFA) representatives on a conference call to reassure players of their importance and safety.
The Premier League announced on Monday that there were 11 new Covid cases which is a cause for a concern given that there were no new positive results at some points last season – which is before they allowed fans back into stadiums and had that to combat.
Players cannot be forced to have both jabs, but they were also reminded of how important it is to remain “careful and responsible” now that freedoms have been lifted.
PFA representatives and the club’s captains reported back to their teammates with reminders about sticking to current “red zone” guidelines.
They were also urged to keep on testing twice a week with lateral flow tests, and positives are followed up by a PCR.
And because of the concern, the league’s bosses have visited every training ground and handed out a fact sheet guideline setting out the new rules, which come as a result of the return of fans.
Guidelines on mixing with ball boys as well as staying away from the supporters on match days have been updated.
Players are allowed to socialise but they must be cautious and sensible.
The new rules follow up the introduction of random spot checks for fans at grounds who must present proof of a negative lateral flow test or present a Covid vaccination certificate.
