Premier League Golden Boot latest: Harry Kane overtakes Mohamed Salah after brace at Newcastle

With just over a month left to play, Harry Kane now leads the way in the race for the Premier League Golden Boot, overtaking his nearest rivals in Mohamed Salah and Bruno Fernandes after he bagged a brace away at Newcastle.

Liverpool forward Salah briefly topped the scoring charts after his effort against Arsenal on Saturday evening in his side’s 3-0 win at the Emirates, but the Egyptian now sits in second place with 17 goals.

Two-Horse Race

The title of Premier League's leading marksman has chopped and changed all season, but as the campaign approaches the final furlong Tottenham and Liverpool's most prolific strikers look set to make it a two-horse race for the golden boot.

Kane has had a particularly lethal season in front of goal, even by his high standards with the England captain now boasting 19 goals so far this season.

He clearly isn't phased by the constant speculation surrounding his future, his two goals at St James Park coming at a vital phase of the game that turned the tie around just as the hosts looked to be building momentum after Joelinton's opener.

If Kane's first strike could be considered fortunate, the ball falling at his feet after a deflection from close range, there was nothing lucky about his second. An emphatic right-footed effort across Martin Dubravka gave Spurs' a 2-1 lead they ultimately couldn't hold on to, Arsenal loanee Joe Willock's late equaliser ensuring the points were shared.

The rest of the pack

Manchester United's talisman Bruno Fernandes is not far behind, the Portuguese international has notched 16 and counting thus far, all the more impressive when you factor in he's operating as a midfielder and outscoring many of the division's forwards.

The top scorers in the Premier League so far this season can be found below.

1. Harry Kane - 19 goals

2. Mohamed Salah - 18 goals

3. Bruno Fernandes - 16 goals

4. Patrick Bamford - 14 goals

4. Dominic Calvert-Lewin - 14 goals

6. Son Heung-min - 13 goals

7. Jamie Vardy - 12 goals
