Premier League give green light for Kenny Dalglish to hand Liverpool winners' medals

Liverpool will deliver a personal touch to their title celebrations…After getting Premier League approval for Kenny Dalglish to hand out the medals.

The ceremony to lift the trophy will come after the match against Chelsea at Anfield next Wednesday, the Reds last home game of the season, and they want it to be as special as possible, despite the absence of fans.

For that reason, the club had asked for approval from the league for their legendary former player and manager to hand out the medals to the entire squad, before skipper Jordan Henderson lifts the trophy.

And they have also announced the special ceremony will take place on the legendary Kop end as they aim to honour the supporters who will not be able to attend for the big moment.

Boss Jurgen Klopp sees it as a human, personal touch to the presentation, which will take place in an empty stadium because of the Coronavirus crisis.

Dalglish won five titles as a player with Liverpool, one as player-manager and three more as their manager, as well as a Premier League trophy with Blackburn.

The Premier League were happy for the Scottish icon to perform the ceremony, but the trophy itself is taken from a plinth by the captain.

Henderson will perform that role, even though he is ruled out for the season, with Klopp assuring fans that the skipper will be “there in a kit, to lift the trophy”.

When asked about how the trophy lift will work with Henderson injured last week, Klopp said: "We know since yesterday the injury is not as serious as we really thought, all of us and it is big relief, big relief because we really thought he deserves exactly - for the role he played the last years now - he deserves to be in that spot at that moment [when we lift the trophy].

"So we will find a solution that shows the respect absolutely for what he did. All the boys want that by the way, they all want him to be there and that was one of the first things I heard after we won the league!"
