Premier League football on TV to return to normal next season - report

The Premier League's TV schedule will return to normal next season regardless of whether fans are allowed inside stadiums.

While Premier League supporters have been locked out of stadiums in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, they have at least been able to tune into every game live on TV.

But next season, even if stadiums are not fully open - which will almost certainly be the case for the start of the season, at least - we will not see a repeat of the current feast of football on TV.

That's according to The Athletic , who report that the current plan of showing all Premier League games on TV to make sure fans get to see their team's games in the wake of the pandemic is a 'one-off'.

They report that next season, the TV schedule will go back to normal with games split between UK broadcast rights holders Sky Sports and BT Sport.

The move means thousands of fans will not be able to tune in to their side's games, and that will come as a blow to those who have not renewed their season tickets under the belief the same TV arrangement may be used for next term.

It also means that the BBC will have to make do with highlights despite getting their first taste of live top flight action with four games between the restart and the end of the season.

The current Premier League broadcast deal brings in around £5bn for the Premier League and its clubs across the duration of the contract, which began in 2019 and runs up until the end of the 2022 season.
