Premier League football could return in June as new date reported

Premier League clubs are gearing up to restart the playing of matches on the weekend of June 13.

The Premier League is committed to finishing the season, where possible, but details on plans are yet to be finalised.

However in a new report by the Mirror on Tuesday night, they claim several clubs now believe fixtures could resume from the second weekend in June if all goes to plan and they gain government support.

The Premier League has been given four weeks to finalise their plans for the resumption of the 2019/20 season by UEFA.

The Premier League’s ‘Project Restart’ has gained traction in recent days, with the government backing plans for top-level sport to return behind closed doors.

However, there are still a number of difficult issues that must be overcome in the coming days and weeks due to the current social distancing measures in place.

The report also claims that more details on what clubs can expect and how the games may be played will be released when the Premier League meet again on Friday.

Clubs also want to have a three week pre-season ahead of games resuming, with the hope that sides will be back using their training grounds by the middle of May.
