Premier League fixtures: Manchester United vs Tottenham could be among first games back with fans in stadiums

Manchester United's home match against Tottenham could be among the first games of the Premier League season to welcome fans.

The government in July confirmed officials are working towards an October 1 for the return of supporters at a much-reduced limit. The Telegraph report a 30 per cent capacity.

“The October 1 deadline is certainly the target that we’re looking at,” sports minister Nigel Huddleston said.

“If you look at various announcements we’ve made, some have been put forward, some have been pushed back, but that’s a pretty firm one.

"In the whole scheme of things, it’s not that far away – 60-something days and we’ll be there – so I would be surprised if that date was moved.”

The full schedule for the 2020-21 Premier League season was confirmed on Thursday, with October 1 coming two days before the fourth gameweek.

United vs Tottenham at Old Trafford is the pick of the bunch, with Chelsea and Crystal Palace facing off in a London derby and Arsenal hosting Sheffield United.

The Mail add that the Premier League will push for a bigger share than 30% of fans, with bigger stadiums such as Old Trafford able to socially distance more than smaller grounds like Fulham's Craven Cottage or Burnley's Turf Moor.

The Sun report singing or chanting is likely to be banned in a bid to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
