Premier League ‘fixture leak’ gets fans talking despite obvious problem as Manchester United and Man City await full schedule

The season has only just ended but the Premier League fixtures for the 2023/24 campaign will be released on Thursday.

Manchester United and Manchester City fans will be looking for when the derbies are scheduled to take place with the meetings with Liverpool also of major interest too. Both will travel to a new Premier League ground this season after Luton Town’s promotion.

The Hatters are currently revamping Kenilworth Road to bring it in line with Premier League requirements and are expected to play away from home for at least the first match, until works are completed. It’s why some fans have been questioning a ‘leak’ of the fixtures that emerged via a social media account on Wednesday afternoon.

It showed champions and Treble winners Manchester City travelling to returning top-flight club Burnley, while Manchester United hosted Brighton for a second season running. But it also shows Liverpool travelling to Luton, despite club chief Mick Harford stating that home games early on are unlikely.

"We will probably have to play maybe two or three games away from home at the start of the Premier League season,” he told the BBC.

The abbreviations of certain clubs such as ‘Man City’ and ‘Man United’ seem highly unlikely in an official Premier League document, suggesting the actual fixtures could look very different when they come out on Thursday.

City will be going for a fourth consecutive title next season, a feat no other club has done in the Premier League era. United, meanwhile, are hoping to build on this season’s third-place finish and potentially mount a challenge for the crown.

City matched United’s two-time feat of winning three titles in a row last month before replicating their Treble achievement of 1999 having beaten the Reds in the FA Cup final a week prior to their Champions League triumph in Istanbul.
