Premier League final day permutations as Manchester United, Leicester and Chelsea battle for top four

Manchester United are preparing for their final day showdown with Leicester City.

The Reds travel to the King Power Stadium hoping to wrap up a Champions League spot having overcome a 14-point gap to climb into third with one game to go.

They face a Leicester side bang out of form, but in a cup final-like scenario, form might just go out the window.

There is a way both teams can make it with Chelsea also involved in the final day scramble, while there is still more to be decided in the Europa League positions.

Here we run you through all the permutations involving the European spots.

The race for top four

It's a case of two from three in the race for top four.

United currently lead the race, sitting in third, goal difference ahead of Chelsea and a point ahead of Leicester.

Of course, Solskjaer's men take on Leicester on the final day, and that makes the equation a little easier.

If United win or draw, they are in. A United win would see Leicester finish fifth, while a draw would also see the Foxes miss out unless Chelsea lose to Wolves.

If Leicester win, United would miss out unless Chelsea lose to Wolves.

As far as Chelsea are concerned, a draw or a win against Wolves will wrap up a top four spot no matter what.

The race for sixth

There's also a battle for sixth, which provides automatic qualification for the Europa League.

Seventh are condemned to a long, arduous qualifying process, which teams could do without given how long this season has dragged on for and how short the break is before the start of next term.

As things stand, Wolves are a point ahead of Tottenham in seventh, but they have the more difficult of the two final games.

Nuno Espirito Santo's men take on Chelsea, while Spurs take on Crystal Palace.

Wolves need to match or better Tottenham's result to wrap up sixth spot.

With a better goal difference by one, Tottenham can draw and sneak into sixth if Wolves lose to Chelsea or win and hope Wolves draw or lose.
