Premier League end of season verdict will have a huge impact on Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham

There are plenty of proposals doing the rounds about how and when the 2019/20 Premier League season will end.

No football has been played since the beginning of March as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, and Premier League clubs have joined together to ensure no football will be played until it is safe to do so.

The UK is in lockdown for another three weeks at least, with suggestions the restrictions could go on much longer than that.

The Premier League are committed to finishing the current campaign, rather than declaring the season null and void, but no one as yet knows when or even if that will be possible.

Culture Secretary challenges Premier League to show games free-to-air

The Eredivisie in the Netherlands was scrapped on Friday, with Ajax declared the champions, with no relegation or promotion.

And the Dutch FA chief believes the Premier League could suffer the same fate.

If the Premier League were to make the same decision, however reluctantly, Liverpool would surely be crowned champions, given their 25-point lead at the top of the table.

But it would have a huge impact on those behind them and the race for the Champions League places, in which Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham are involved.

KNVB chief Just Spee told the BBC : "I do know that what is true for us, we are footballers we want to play, is true for all of my colleagues around the continent.

"And in the UK it is not different. So they will hold onto a sliver of hope as long as it's there. But again, we've seen how this develops. Is it realistic? In the end it probably will not be but we'll see.

"To be honest, seeing what is happening and seeing that things get postponed week by week by week, how realistic is it that within the next three or four weeks we will come to a different conclusion? Not so much I believe.

"And also the Premier League will need a number of weeks to complete their competition. Is there going to be enough time for that? Doubtful, very doubtful."
