Premier League could hold matches at neutral venues with Arsenal and West Ham potential hosts

The Premier League and its clubs are set to continue with talks next week about a potential restart date.

There is still a determination across the top flight to finish the current season, with clubs discussing the possibility of playing the remaining 92 matches at neutral venues.

Plans are also being made to test players twice a week for coronavirus as part of extremely stringent health checks being put in place.

The Premier League and its clubs met again on Friday, and in the meeting, which lasted four hours, it was decided, according to The Telegraph, that another video conference should be planned for next Friday, May 8.

Premier League players could isolate together to complete season

The next meeting was due to take place on May 15, but all parties have decided that they cannot wait that long and they should recommence next week instead.

Any return to club football in England is still entirely dependent on government approval.

However, latest reports have suggested that senior figures at Downing Street are behind the idea of “Project Restart”.

The Telegraph also claimed that in a bid for games to restart on June 8, as previously reported, playing them at bio-secure neutral stadia could be key to a return, with Arsenal, West Ham and Manchester City's stadiums all reportedly potential venues.

However, they report that the move is opposed by several clubs who claim it undermines the sporting integrity of the competition.

But some of the authorities, including the police, are pushing for it and may be the only way to convince everyone to resume the season, they claim.

The in-depth report from The Telegraph also claims that player testing is also an extremely sensitive issue with the Premier League aware that it could face a backlash if tests are taken away from key workers and used by players and staff.

While all Premier League and EFL Academy games for the 2019/20 season have been terminated with immediate effect.
