Premier League confirm three new Covid-19 cases following latest round of testing

Three new positive Covid-19 cases have been confirmed following the latest round of Premier League testing.

In an official update released on Monday, the top-flight announced that 1,574 players and club staff had been tested for coronavirus in the third batch of testing to take place during the new 2020-21 season.

They further revealed that three of those tests had come back positive.

While the Premier League did not identify the personnel in question, one of the positive tests is known to have been recorded by German midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, with Manchester City confirming the news via their official webiste earlier on Monday.

Gundogan is now set to isolate for 10 days in accordance with protocol, missing City's upcoming matches against Wolves, Bournemouth and Leicester.

"The Premier League can today confirm that between Monday 14 September and Sunday 20 September, 1,574 players and club staff were tested for COVID-19," the Premier League said in their latest statement.

"Of these, there were three new positive tests. Players or club staff who have tested positive will self-isolate for a period of 10 days.

"The Premier League is providing this aggregated information for the purposes of competition integrity and transparency.

"No specific details as to clubs or individuals will be provided by the League and results will be made public after each round of testing."
