Premier League confirm new plans for TV fixtures as fans still absent from grounds

The Premier League has confirmed all games will be shown live from the end of January to the final weekend of February, with fans not expected back into grounds any time soon.

Amazon Prime, BBC, Sky Sports and BT Sport will all broadcast extra matches in order to fill up the schedule.

Other than a brief period during the early stages of December, fans haven’t been allowed into English Premier League stadiums since last March, and it seems there isn’t any expectation that will change.

As a result, matches will be shown on television, with the league opting against adopting the ‘iFollow’ format used in the EFL.

The announcement means games such as Tottenham vs Chelsea on February 3rd, Liverpool vs Manchester City on February 6th and Chelsea vs Manchester United on February 27th will all be shown live.

The league is yet to confirm which games will be broadcast over each specific channel, but a statement released on Wednesday afternoon stated an announcement will be made soon.

There is no word yet on whether the same initiative will be followed after the end of February through to the end of the season, and will likely depend on whether fans are permitted to return to watch games live.

The Premier League confirmed in a statement: “All Premier League fixtures from Saturday 30 January to the last weekend of February will be made available to fans to watch live in the UK.

“Matches will continue to be shown via the existing services of broadcast partners Sky Sports, BT Sport, Amazon Prime Video and BBC.

“Details of all contracted broadcast selections will be announced today, along with early additional selections.

“Confirmation of the remaining fixtures, up to match round 26, will follow in due course.

“The Premier League and its clubs are committed to an accessible solution for fans.

“These plans have been made with the cooperation of our broadcast partners, working with us to deliver these additional matches while stadiums are missing the supporters who are such an integral part of the game.”
