Premier League confirm £125m decision to boost EFL and National League clubs

The Premier League has announced that clubs in the EFL and the National League will receive advanced funding of £125m to help cope with the financial implications of the coronavirus pandemic.

Football at the highest levels has now been suspended indefinitely as the crisis in the UK grows, with the amount of cases and death toll increasing significantly once again during the latest 24-hour period.

Outside of the Premier League, finances are extremely tight and there has been warnings that some clubs could go bust due to the lost revenue while football matches are not being played.

To help combat this, the Premier League will issue the three EFL divisions and the National League with advanced funding.

In a statement, the Premier League said: “Discussions also took place regarding financial relief for clubs in the short term and while there is no single solution, measures are to be put in place to immediately deal with the impact of falling cash flow.

“Critically, the League unanimously voted to advance funds of £125 million to the EFL and National League as it is aware of the severe difficulties clubs throughout the football pyramid are suffering at this time.”

The Premier League has also pledged to donate £20m to the NHS to help support the COVID-19 battle, while confirming that discussions will be held regarding wage deferrals.
