Premier League clubs to back PPG method that would affect Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham

Premier League clubs are said to have voted in favour for the 2020/21 season to be decided on points-per-game if needed.

The 2019/20 season was paused for over three months last season and it led to some calls for the campaign to be curtailed.

Instead, it was played out in full and it has led to a jam-packed schedule for the 2020/21 campaign.

However, reports from The Times are suggesting that clubs in the top-flight have already agreed to use the points-per-game method to decide the season should it have to be curtailed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

If the points-per-game method is used, the report suggests that it would only be considered if at least 75 per cent of the season has already been played out.

Last year, it was used in League One and League Two to determine which sides were promoted and relegated, as well as who was finishing in the play-off places.

It did lead to some objection from certain clubs. For example, Wycombe Wanderers were actually eighth when the League One season was curtailed.

However, points-per-game moved them up to third.

The Chairboys went on to win the play-offs and are now enjoying their first ever season in the Championship.
