Premier League clubs return just one positive coronavirus case during latest round of testing

Premier League clubs have returned just one positive case of coronavirus in a round of testing for the first time this season.

Testing was conducted between March 29 and April 4, with 2,664 players and club staff tested. The individual who has tested positive will self-isolate for a period of 10 days.

There were fears around Christmas and New Year - when cases peaked at 40 in one round of testing - that the season would have to be put on hold, but numbers have been in steady decline ever since.

Clubs and players were reminded of restrictions around that time while some where tightened.

Returning a single positive case is a new record for the Premier League this season, while no more than two cases have been detected in a round of testing since January.

All 72 English Football League clubs returned a clean bill of health in late March.

Testing has proved key to keeping professional going during the pandemic and will be when fans return for the final two game weeks of the Premier League season.
