Premier League officials revealed on Monday that two positive Covid-19 tests among players and club staff had been recorded for the sixth successive week.

The number of positive tests represents a significant drop from the beginning of the year.

The week after Christmas saw 28 positive tests announced and January 4-10 returned a 2021 high of 36 positives.

In the latest round of checks, more than 2,600 personnel took part in two rounds of testing.

A Premier League statement said: “The Premier League can today confirm that between Monday 8 March and Sunday 14 March, across two rounds of testing, 2,664 players and club staff were tested for COVID-19. Of these, there were two new positive tests.

“Players or club staff who have tested positive will self-isolate for a period of 10 days.

“The Premier League is providing this aggregated information for the purposes of competition integrity and transparency. No specific details as to clubs or individuals will be provided by the League and results will be made public on a weekly basis.”
