Premier League clubs plotting new plan to finish season after coronavirus suspension

Premier League chiefs have come up with a plan to save their season and it involves playing games behind closed doors.

UEFA agreed to postpone Euro 2020 for 12 months yesterday due to the coronavirus outbreak, and in doing so have given domestic leagues more time to complete their campaigns.

But according to a report in The Sun, clubs in England’s top-flight fear they could be the one country unable to fulfil their league fixtures.

Coronavirus cases: The spread outside China

As a result, clubs are proposing to play all of the remaining 92 games behind closed doors with every game in neutral venues at a separate time and live on TV.

Officials from the Premier League are also believed to have reportedly spoken to UEFA chief Aleksander Ceferin about their concerns as they have more matches left to play than countries like Italy and Spain.

According to the report, clubs will discuss the proposal on a Premier League conference call due to take place on Thursday.

There is also a belief that grounds, most likely to be in the Midlands, could even stage more than one game a day with teams playing every three days in a race to pack in the fixtures.

The measure would not only limit the number of stadiums but also keep the number of medical and police needed down to a minimum.
