Premier League clubs 'planning friendlies against each other' before season resumes

Premier League clubs are looking to plan friendlies against each other ahead of the season's restart.

Project Restart continues after all 20 clubs agreed to full contact training yesterday.

Football is expected to resume in June but clubs have not played competitively for over two months.

Leicester's 4-0 win over Aston Villa on March 9 was the last Premier League game to take place.

Liverpool and Manchester United have played since in the Champions League and Europa League respectively.

But as teams gear up for the return of competitive action they are planning  pre-season friendlies, according to the Athletic.

Several teams are also looking to iron out contingency plans if a second peak means the league has to be abandoned for a second time.

Relegation is the main issue for several teams who feel as if it can only be valid if each teams play everyone twice.

Some clubs want to follow League Two’s example and award final league positions but without relegation to the Championship.

They have argued that a points per game is flawed although they are unlikely to get the support they need to push through their proposal.

14 votes are needed to pass the motion but there is a lack of sympathy from the league's remaining sides.

The fixtures fall kindly for some clubs but not others with West Ham's first three games back against Wolves, Tottenham and Chelsea before home games against Watford and Aston Villa.

Brighton face an even tougher task when they resume with matches against Arsenal, Leicester, Manchester United, Liverpool and Manchester City.
